Wannabe Peligrinos

Another awesome trip to tell y'all about!

Day one: Leon was a little chilly and dreary, but we made the most of it! We saw what used to be a stop for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago (it is now a 5 star hotel), a Gaudi house, and another Cathedral! That puts our church/cathedral count at 15... but if I had to pick a top 5 to see in Spain, this cathedral in Leon would be included. This cathedral is accredited with having the 2nd most square footage of stain glassed windows and they were beautiful. They had so many colors and tons of symbolism in them. Another plus to this cathedral was an amazing organ concert that just happened to be going on the night we were there! It was FREE and it was a Bach series that the organist played. My inner piano nerd came flying out and I loved every second of it. The best part was as you were listening to the technical conversation the organ was having, I would open my eyes and look up at tons of colorful stained glass windows. It was unreal.

Day two: Burgos was a lot better on the weather side and a lot more colorful of a city. There were beautiful blue skies and pink, red, and even green buildings almost everywhere you looked. We also saw another cathedral and this one was huge. It had 3 different floors and it honestly felt like it would keep going, and going, and going... we made it out eventually. We then just walked through the city, drank more chocolate and churros, and ate delicious burgers. My favorite part of Spain is definitely the cuisine.

One last thought: From city to city we were driving right along the Camino de Santiago. The camino is a pilgrimage that goes from the north east of spain to the far west. Thanks to Mrs. Perry, a favorite teacher of mine, we watched a movie about this camino and I fell in love. In these cities and the little pit stop cities we would stop in, there would be little yellow arrows pointing the pilgrims on their way. We also saw pilgrims complete with their gear and big winter coats walking along side the roads we were one. Their smiles called out to me and from what I heard from locals, the camino, if you walk it, only takes a month! You can bike it as well and that only takes a week and a half. So take note, I will do at least a part of the Camino one day.

Xoxo,
Lyds
